Sultan Qansawh Al-Ghuri appointed him prime minister and let him act on his behalf when he (Al-Ghuri) went to Allepo to fight the Ottomans in 922 A.H. After the death of Qansawh Al-Ghuri he was made sultan. The Ottomans defeated him and conquered Cairo under the command of Sultan Selim I (922 A.H./1516 A.D.) His death marked the beginning of the Ottoman rule of Egypt.
