In 2011 I made a trip to the Mercedes factory in Stuttgart. I was amazed to find out that the cars are all completely built by robots. From the time the first piece of metal is picked up until the car rolls into the last 100 yards or so of the assembly line no human places a hand on the car. Only the final inspection is done by people, a small number of people. Four days from start to finish to build a Mercedes E class sedan. The Smart car is built in 8 hours. And the cars are near perfect no human error or mistakes.
